The Ministry of Development and Energy has named the amount of funding for the program for the transformation of coal regions

The estimated amount of funding that will be directed to the implementation of measures within the framework of the Program for the Just Transformation of Coal Regions of Ukraine is ₴30 billion.

This was stated by Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Ryabykin in a comment to Ukrinform.

"The program approved by the government is designed until 2030. It provides for quite serious funding - approximately ₴30 billion. These will be funds from the state budget, local budgets and other sources, including international technical assistance," Ryabykin noted.

He noted that one of the stages of the program is currently starting - Power4JustTransition, which will cover 38 new communities. Together with the two pilot ones, 40 communities in Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Luhansk, Lviv, Vinnytsia and other regions will participate in it. In total, the program is expected to cover about 2.2 million residents of the indicated regions.

"It is important that our German partners with GIZ agreed to our proposals and included in the program not only communities from regions where coal is mined, but also those where there is thermal generation using fossil fuels. Therefore, communities from, for example, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv regions have been added to the regions where mining is carried out," the deputy minister emphasized.

According to him, the program will be based on modern management approaches that provide for gradual and synchronized changes, without "any shock reforms."

"This means that there will be complete openness of processes and citizens' access to information. The government, community and business will work as a single whole," Ryabykin added.
