Obtaining this deposit will expand the company's resource base
Polish coking coal producer Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa (JSW) has applied for an exploration license for the Dębieńsko 1 deposit. This was reported by the company.

The Dębieńsko deposit, which is of interest to the company, is the remnant of a former mine that was closed more than 20 years ago. It is estimated that previously undeveloped series of seams of the 400 group still contain more than 100 million tons of industrial resources of coal with good coking parameters.

According to Adam Rozmus, Vice President of the Management Board for Technical and Operational Affairs at JSW, the company does not have detailed information on the quality of the underlying coal, so geological exploration is necessary. Obtaining an exploration license is only the first step towards further development of the deposit. Research, documentation, and obtaining an environmental solution will be required. The entire process will take several years.

The Dębieńsko 1 deposit is located along the western border of the Knurów Szczygłowice mine. As noted by the company, obtaining this deposit will certainly expand the resource base of JSW and extend the life of the mine, as well as allow for the rational use of coking coal resources, which are a critical raw material for the European economy.

As a reminder, in November last year, JSW announced the start of the implementation of a strategic transformation plan. The document provides for the implementation of tasks in four key areas - increasing production efficiency, optimizing procurement processes, rationalizing investment costs and optimizing support functions.
