Thermal generation has accumulated the largest coal reserves in warehouses in 4 years - Gerus

To date, thermal generation has accumulated more than 1 million tons of coal in warehouses, which is the highest figure in the last 4 years.

This was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing Utilities Andrey Gerus.

According to him, Ukraine experienced the most difficult winter in history, when electricity was generated from everything possible, from thousands and thousands of diesel generators.

But, in his opinion, the Ukrainian energy system lived through it, prepared for this winter, and it went better.

“We see that we already have a certain margin of safety...

If we use facts and figures, then today we have coal reserves as of March 14 - more than 1 million tons. These coal reserves are greater than on March 14, 2023, 2022 and 2021 year. That is, in the pre-war year we had less coal, and now there is more. Therefore, today we have the maximum amount in warehouses over the last 4 years," Gerus said, noting that this shows that the energy system has a margin of safety.

The day before, DTEK Energy reported that in February the company’s miners launched 4 new coal faces, one of which was launched ahead of schedule. It was noted that in two months of the year, the company’s miners put into operation 6 new longwalls, and for the entire 2023 - 26. The company’s investments in Ukrainian coal mining last year amounted to about UAH 7 billion.
