Ukraine should be bolder in raising CO2 bills without shifting the burden of financing decarbonisation to taxpayers.
This was stated by the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Ukraine Matti Maasikas, reports mind.ua.
"The polluter must pay," the statement said. "The authorities need to work with this more boldly."
According to him, the fee in Ukraine for CO2 emissions is 15 eurocents per ton, while in the EU - more than 50 euros.
According to the report, the resource bill №5600, adopted by the parliament in the first reading, contains a proposal to increase the fee for CO2 emissions from 10 to 30 hryvnias per ton.
