By the end of 2020, energy storage systems will be built on the basis of the Zaporozhye thermal power plant.
The pilot project plans to launch DTEK energy holding, expro.com.ua reports.
"Today, we have almost entered into a pilot project on energy storage at the Zaporizhzhya Station," said DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko. "Notwithstanding the current crisis, we believe that this is a very important area and that this pilot project will be implemented by the end of the year and energy storage technologies will be refined."
Balancing capacity is an important component of the industry's transformation, Maxim Timchenko stressed. "Today, we are looking for technologies to convert base capacity into balancing power, with the same requirements that are required for the power grid," explained DTEK's CEO. "We are also considering piston engines based on our own thermal power plants that can meet the balancing needs."
